North Korea fires two ballistic missiles, slams US carrier deployment
According to Yasukazu Hayada, the Japanese defense minister, the first missile flew approximately 350 km (217 miles) at an altitude around 100 kms. The second missile flew around 800 kms at an altitude around 50 kilometers.
Two ballistic missiles were fired by North Korea on Thursday, as the country justifies its recent sanctions-busting test campaign as necessary countermeasures to joint military drills between the United States of America and South Korea.
North Korea accused Washington of “escalating military tensions on Korea peninsula” during Tuesday’s meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
Pyongyang’s foreign minister stated that the recent launches, six in less than two week’s time including its most likely longest-ever distance test by distance, were “the only counteraction measures taken by the Korean People’s Army regarding South Korea-US joint drills.”
South Korea’s military reported that it had identified two short-range ballistic weapons of mass destruction launched from Pyongyang’s Samsok region towards the East Sea.
Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff released a statement saying that “our military has strengthened monitoring and surveillance and is maintaining the utmost readiness coordination with the United States.”
Japan’s coastguard confirmed that two potential ballistic missiles were launched. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters that the latest testing was unacceptable.
According to Yasukazu Hayada, the Japanese defense minister, the first missile flew 350 km (217 miles) at an altitude around 100 kilometres. The second missile had a range of 800 km at around 50 kilometres.

China criticizes the US
Pyongyang’s Tuesday firing, according to analysts and officials, of a Hwasong-12, which traveled the longest horizontal distance of any North Korean missile test, prompted the United States of America to call for an emergency Security Council meeting.
Beijing, North Korea’s economic benefactor and longtime ally, also spoke out against Washington’s provocations by Kim Jong Un’s regime.
Geng Shuang, the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to the UN, said that North Korea’s recent rocket launches were “closely connected” to US military exercises in the area.
Geng accused the US “poisoning regional security environment”.
In recent weeks, Washington, Seoul, Tokyo, and Tokyo have intensified joint military drills, including large-scale naval maneuvers and anti-submarine exercise.
The United States announced Wednesday that it will redeploy its nuclear-powered USS Ronald Reagan on the Korean Peninsula for a second trip in less than a month.
North Korea’s foreign minister accused the US of “posing an imminent threat to the stability on the Korean peninsula” by the deployment of the aircraft carrier.
