Through Bluetooth signals, the gadgets can be linked to Apple’s “Find My” network. Apple AirTags are used to track and secure lost items. However, auto thieves are taking advantage of them more often. The theft of premium cars using Apple AirTags is a new trend. These events started in Canada but are now being reported in other countries.
How do thieves use AirTags to rob?
To gain entry to cars through passenger or driver doors, thieves use screwdrivers. They avoid alarms. Thieves place AirTags in areas where it is difficult to see if the target vehicle is parked in public places.
According to 9to5Mac, the vehicles targeted are tracked to the victim’s house, where they are removed from their driveway. The York Regional Police Department in Canada released a statement last week stating that five instances were investigated using AirTags to steal premium vehicles.
