Following a regular improvement in relations, Israel and Turkey have said they will send ambassadors returned to each other’s country.
Israel and Turkey have decided to restore full diplomatic ties and will return ambassadors to every other’s countries, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s office stated on Wednesday.
“Upgrading relations will make a contribution to deepening ties between the two peoples, increasing economic, trade, and cultural ties, and strengthening regional stability,” the announcement said.
Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, confirmed the move, saying, “The appointment of ambassadors was one of the first steps toward normalising relations. As a result of these efforts, Israel took a positive step, and Turkey decided to appoint an ambassador to Israel, in Tel Aviv.”
Despite Palestinian tensions, a diplomatic breakthrough has occurred.
Following deadly protests on the Gaza border in 2018, Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel, and then-US President Donald Trump relocated Washington’s embassy to Jerusalem. Israel has also withdrawn its ambassador to Turkey.
Cavusoglu stated on Wednesday, “we are not giving up on the Palestinian cause.”
“It is important for our messages to be conveyed directly through the ambassador,” he added.
In recent months, however, each Turkey and Israel have made strikes to enhance relations.
In March, the countries introduced a new technology in relations when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoganmet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Ankara.
On Wednesday, Lapid described the diplomatic step forward as an “important asset for regional stability and very essential economic information for the residents of Israel.”
