Magnus Carlsen, a Chess Superstar, has accused Hans Niemann, an American player of cheating for the first-ever time. He said that Niemann had done it more frequently and recently than he had previously admitted.
Three weeks ago, the scandal surrounding Carlsen-Niemann caused controversy in the chess world. The five-time world champion resigned from the 2022 Sinquefield Cup held in the United States. Niemann, 19, was the winner.
“I am aware that my actions have frustrated many people in the chess world. I’m frustrated. I want to play chess. Carlsen released a statement Monday saying that he wants to continue playing chess at the highest level and in the best events.
The furor was rekindled by the sudden withdrawal of the 31-year-old Norwegian from the match against Niemann last week in the Julius Baer Generation Cup Online Tournament.
“I believe Niemann has cheated much more and more frequently than he has admitted publicly. Carlsen stated that Niemann’s “over the board” progress was unusual.
Although he did not give any details about the cheating, he said that there was more to it.
Niemann admitted cheating online when he was just 12 and 16. However, he claims he has never played fraudulently in face-to-face matches and will even play nude to prove his good faith.
