Russian forces continue to bombard Ukrainian cities and towns throughout the Donetsk region but have made no progress on the ground, according to Ukrainian regional authorities.
Several cities in Donetsk were bombed on Monday, including Bakhmut and Avdiivka, and four civilians were injured. No information on Ukrainian military casualties was provided.
The regional administration said a mandatory evacuation remained in force in much of Donetsk.
Despite daily Russian artillery shelling, airstrikes, and tank fire, there has been virtually no change on the front lines in Donetsk for several weeks. Analysts say that after a series of losses in June along the Luhansk and Donetsk border, Ukrainian forces have largely held their positions, with almost daily Russian assaults being repulsed.
In recent days, Ukrainian units have even advanced in one area across the Siverskiy Donets River, but it is unclear how much resistance they have encountered.
Ukrainian officials say the latest Russian assault was on Bakhmut on Monday night.
“The occupants fired two missiles, eight artillery shells, and 17 mortar shells. The Russians used MLRS three times, a tank twice, and an infantry fighting vehicle.”
Further south, in Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk, the Russians bombed the Nikopol district, across the river from the nuclear power plant, according to the regional administration. Regional administrators said 11 houses and 20 high-rise buildings were damaged.
