Musk tweeted an idea for peace that parodies Kremlin talk points.
Elon Musk is currently embroiled in a social media controversy over his decision to weigh-in on the solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
On Monday, the billionaire CEO of Twitter sent a series tweets to his millions followers about Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. This prompted backlash from experts as well as Ukrainian officials such Asrij Melnyk (ambassador to Germany) and Volodymyr Zelenskyy (presidential adviser).
Musk demanded a vote while he tweeted a list he thought could lead to “peace between Ukraine and Russia”. These conditions included redoing elections in areas recently annexed to Russia, recognising Russia’s annexation Crimea, assuring Crimea water supply, and ensuring Ukrainian neutrality.
Musk stated that “this is highly probable to be the outcome at the end – it’s just a matter of how many people die before then.”

Melnyk responded with a tweet: “Fuckoff is my very diplomatic response to you.” Melnyk was among a number of Ukrainian officials who called out Musk regarding his proposal.
“Has @elonmusk’s account been hacked?” Oder has Elon Musk been hacked? Anton Gerashchenko was an advisor to Ukraine’s interior affairs minister. “Should Putin declare Elon Musk’s future Mars colony historically Russian, and annexe it?” He asked the question on Twitter.
Dmytro Gurin wrote that Musk had done a lot to help [Ukraine] win, but was suddenly gone mad,” Dmytro Gurin (a member of Ukraine’s parliament) said.
Mykhailo Polyak, a top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zeleskyy, responded with what he called a “better plan for peace” to Musk’s idea.
“1. Ukraine liberates its territories. This includes the annexed Crimea. 2. [Russia] is subject to mandatory and demilitarization in order to no longer be a threat to others. 3. International tribunals are used to punish war criminals. Let’s vote?” He wrote.
Zelenskky also participated, mocking Musk’s attempts to solve real-world problems with a Twitter vote.
